Have you ever played wheelchair sports?
I've participated in track and field, floor hockey, soccer (once and hated it) and today I played softball. I know that I will be a much more committed person to exercising if I played a sport regularly because other people would be depending on me to also practice on my own time. Have you ever played wheelchair sports. If so, which one?
they took my son's wheelchair away....I'm pissed!
My son was having trouble sitting in the chair one day. (He was in an accident and is recovering in a nursing home.) We talked with administration about it. I worked with the therapist as agreed. I started coming in at 6 am to stretch his hips, legs and back out real good before we even get him up in the mornings. The therapist added a special pad to help keep him from sliding. Then they came one night while I was gone and took the chair. btw, he wasn't slipping any more. He was sitting up good! Been sitting up good for like 2 weeks. I was mad as h*ll!! She didn't even ask if Chris was improving just came and took his chair. I honestly think she did it out of spite as I had applied to move him to a rehab center. She of course denies this.. but I really think that is what it was. Now he has to eat in his room and cannot go outside. What do you think? She can cover her own tail if I file a complaint and cover it all over as if it was a safety issue.... yes he did have problems but we fixed it...
To Be Wheelchair Bound
I think no one likes this. When your leg cannot carry you any more, you become immobile. Even crutches would not be able to help you.So I was sad when my father became wheel-chair bound today. He just could not lift himself up to walk. what a pity!I think there will be a need of a caregiver. Thankfully my sister in law is at hand to do that.I will have to get home maybe sometime this week if I am get hold of a car and it must be time when I do not have work to do.How would you feel if you get wheel-chair bound?[em]confused[/em]
Airport wheelchair man 'had been dead 12 hours'
Just when you think the stories could not get weirder, here is anotherA mother and a daughter were arrested last Saturday because a 91 year old man was found to be dead. The officials say they tried to conceal his death be he appeared to have died of natural causes way longer than they said it was.If you have nothing to hide then why lie? Reports will show the estimated times of death. We shall see. Weird story and kinda sick if he was dead at the arrival at the airport and they tried to conceal it.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crimes/7570985/Airport-wheelchair-man-had-been-dead-12-hours.html
Best Beach/WheelChair Ever!
[em]shocked[/em]I saw this on craigslist for sale at a very reduced price. Boy, could I have done with this a few years ago, for my then partner had 2 knee surgeries and could never walk on the beach with me. I was so lonely..I would have pushed them miles for the company with this awesome wheelchair! I didn't know they existed. Hey it must be motorised too though ya think? But anyway, I love this and would highly recommend it! Have you ever seen one of these?[em]blink[/em][em]wub[/em]
In a Wheelchair - How would you deal with it?
I had a dream the other night that my ex was in a wheelchair. I still talk to him but decided against telling him this dream. It did get me wondering how I would feel being in a wheelchair for life. I believe I would not let it get the best of me and think of all the good things that I can still do, like breath, read, eat, internet, tv, sit outside in the sunlight. I know I wouldn't feel sorry for myself, because I believe things happen for a reason. How would you deal with it or could you?
This is wheelchair accessible?
Like most people, I've never paid much attention to wheelchair ramps at restaurants. I never thought twice about using the handicap stall in a public restroom if it was available. I remember noticing people parking in handicap parking places and walking into stores without any visible handicap and wondering how they got their permit. I CAN say, I never parked illegally in a handicap parking spot.Since I've started using a wheelchair for family outings, I've noticed there is a wide variance in the compliance of "wheelchair/handicap accessible". Many public restrooms are extremely difficult to navigate. Many stalls are slightly too narrow for a wheelchair to actually fit into the stall. I've had to park my wheelchair in the doorway of the stall, struggle up to the toilet while my daughter stood as lookout, and used the facilities without the privacy of a closed door. Some have a handicap bar on one side, but I had to hold onto my daughter on the other side to keep from using the toilet seat to steady myself. Some hallways or entrances to restrooms are actually too narrow to navigate without hitting walls or bumping door jams. I even had to use the restroom in a doctor's office...
Wheelchair users at school
My son is currently two and a half years old. He will be going to nursery school in September 2010 and to primary school in September 2011. He can't walk because he has spina bifida. I haven't ever seen any wheelchair users at school. I wonder if he will want to crawl around or he will be happy to ride around in a wheelchair. I can't imagine what happens when the other children are doing Physical Education. I think seeing the other children run around at playtime he will be jealous. What do you think? Have you ever seen a wheelchair user at a school?
How easy would it be to travel as a wheelchair user?
I live in Europe and my country is fine for wheelchair users. Many buildings have ramps and other buildings usually have an elevator. I am a very keen traveler and I have been to more than fifty different countries. My toddler son has spina bifida and hydrocephalus. I wonder who easy it will be for him to travel as a wheelchair user in different countries. He is currently two and a half years old. How easy would it be to travel as a wheelchair user? Which countries would it be easy and which countries would it be difficult?
Taxing Grandma's Wheelchair - Making Money off the Sick and Disabled?
Obama is fond of disputing the accusation that he wants to "pull the plug on Grandma". But one way of paying for this health care overhaul involves just that - well, pulling the plug on her motorized wheelchair, anyway. The Baucus bill includes a way to make $40 billion in taxes to help fund the health care plan - taxing necessary medical devices. Have a look at the list of devices that now will face taxation:* Pacemakers* Hip joint replacements* Gastrointestinal tubes* Artificial hearts* Hearing aids* Porcelain teeth* Heart defibrillators* Prosthetic heart valve rotators* Powered wheelchairs* Ventilators"Groups like the Medical Device Manufacturer's Association said that the tax would hurt them, as well as those who need medical devices."Virtually all medical device providers would be affected," Thomas Novelli, the director of federal affairs at the Medical Device Manufacturer's Association, told FOXNews.com. "Ultimately, the costs associated with this tax are going to be passed on to consumers[because] producers will have to raise prices on their products."People on both sides of the political aisle find this tax to be...
